Today Square Enix updated the official site of its upcoming JRPG Dragon Quest XI, adding a lot of new screenshots showing the features of the PS4 version, including those exclusive for the platform.
We get to see the world with his long draw distance and the ability to travel on horses, including the possibility to bounce monsters out of the way by riding them over.
After that the screenshots show the advanced facial expressions of characters, the ability to explore the environment in various ways like climbing, crouching to enter narrow passages, or pushing spider webs aside.
More images features the beautiful and diverse world and ecosystem full of monsters to fight.
Moving on to exclusive features of the PS4 version, we see the battle system, which includes two different styles: the free movement mode that lets characters move freely around the battlefield, and the auto camera battle that gives the turn-based fights a more cinematic look.
Another exclusive elements of the PS4 version is the “Crossbow Adventure” challenge. After being invited by a certain NPC in a certain city, the player will have to find targets hidden all over the world, and hit them with a crossbow.
The third unique element to the PS4 version is the “Magic Slot” machine, that can be found in the casino.
You can check out the screenshots in the gallery below, but it’s worth keeping in mind that even if Square Enix defines the features described here as unique to the PS4 version, they might very well extend to the Switch version when it’ll finally be revealed, unless the publisher decides to release on Switch a game similar to the 3DS version, or a completely unique one. At the moment, we can only speculate.
If you want to see more you can also watch some gameplay from the PS4 and 3DS versions, including the Magic Slot in action, some recent images showing magic and a village, and more showcasing the casino and quests. Recently, we also learned that Square Enix can’t yet talk about the Switch version, due to “adult circumstances.”
Dragon Quest XI will be released in Japan on July 29th for PS4 and 3DS.
