As much as the term “remastered’ has drawn both praise and criticism early into this generation of consoles, remasters and HD releases have brought back numerous classics with a coat of HD polish, and now one of the classic RPGs from the Dreamcast era, Grandia II, will be seeing a special re-release in the near future.
Publisher GungHo Online Entertainment America announced that the classic RPG Grandia II will be coming to PC through a new re-release on Steam, with the title to be remastered based on the Dreamcast version of the game originally released in 2000.
Along with newly-revised HD visuals, the game will also provide several notable additions including full support for both mouse-and-keyboard setups and controllers/gamepads, along with special Steam-centric features like Achievements and Trading Cards.
After releasing a survey back in April from GungHo about properties from developer Game Arts, the results indicated an “overwhelming” response toward a re-release of Grandia II, with GungHo America president Jun Iwasaki commenting:
“With the rise of digital downloads, it is especially important that classic games continue to remain available to play in some form. Grandia II was chosen for a PC re-release because it represents both a hallmark of the Grandia series and an example of how great JRPGs can be.”
Grandia II is currently in development for an HD re-release on PC through Steam – no specific release date for the new release was announced at this time.
