The Blu-ray disc is far superior to the DVD as a format; there is no question about that. Its higher space capacity and high resolution inclination make it a choice format for huge and graphically heavy games. Despite this, the format was off to something of a slow start. EA says that the advantage the Blu-ray has over the DVD, the formats utilized by the PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively, have become a bit glaring. CEO John Riccitiello explains:

"Interestingly enough I don't think Blu-Ray resonated much with consumers when it was first part of the package. I think [Blu-Ray] is resonating now in a pretty big way, because a consumer doesn't have to buy two devices when they can get one and it's not multiple discs for a large game, it's one disc and the fidelity is higher. Sometimes the competitive advantage requires games to show it off to prove it’s compelling."

I agree that the changing times definitely favor one disc over two or three, but then again that's just my opinion and it isn't based on much. At the very least, Microsoft will have no choice but to adapt next console generation; no matter how much they like the DVD.
