EA Says No NCAA Basketball This Year

And maybe next year too. This comes as bad news for sports fans and college basketball fans in general. This means that not only will there be no NCAA basketball from EA, but also 2K Sports has announced that they will not release an NCAA game this year either. What in the world are they thinking you might ask? More than likely they are thinking there are more consumers that don’t buy these types of games than do. EA Sports’ senior director of communications David Tinson had this to say in an interview with GameInformer:

“We do not have an NCAA Basketball game in development at this time, and we’re currently reviewing the future of our NCAA Basketball business,” Tinson explained. “This was a difficult decision, but we remain a committed partner to the NCAA and its member institutions.”

So break out that copy NCAA Basketball 09, because its looking like that will be your only option for awhile. Looks like the NCAA Football franchise will be the only yearly release for now in the college sports genre. On a good note, the developers will not be in any danger of being laid off. EA has stated they will be switched to the NBA and NBA JAM franchises for the time being.
