NetherRealm Studios like to do announcements in a slightly unorthodox way, and this one is no exception. Director Ed Boon suddenly dropped the release date of Injustice 2 on Twitter, just like that.

The game will release on May 16th, bringing more superhero fighting to our screen.

Injustice 2 is scheduled to release on PS4 and Xbox One, published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

It's quite probable that we'll hear more details on the release over the next few days, but for now the date is pretty much all we have. We'll keep you posted if anything more surfaces.

Injustice 2 brings a few new features compared to its predecessor, Injustice: Gods Among Us (which launched in 2013) including a loot feature named "Gear System," that prompts players to earn new equipment and costume pieces for their character after every match. Of course there will be dedicated game modes excluding gear, for players who prefer to play without any progression.
