El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Goes Gold, Nobody Will Sadly Care

Delightfully pretty action game El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron has just gone gold, and will be available in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 on April 28th, with Europe and US release details coming soon. Developed and published by UTV Ignition Entertainment, El Shaddai is unique in that it is a distinctly Japanese-developed game based on distinctly Western mythology.  And is is the case with most unique games, it’s likely to be greatly overlooked by the majority of the public.

Which should be far from the case. El Shaddai’s inspired by a retelling of biblical mythology as interpreted by the Book of Enoch, part of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and has a breathtaking painting aesthetic that’s awe-inspiring and mind-blowing all at once. The gameplay also seems to shift from 2-D platforming to 3-D combat elements, and I’m curious to see if they’ll be able to pull that off.

As someone who hates to see refreshingly original games get deprived of the attention they really do deserve, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one for you fellow true gamers.
