Electronic Arts' newest addition to its popular soccer franchise, EA Sports' FIFA 18, will be used to test the company's popularity on the Nintendo Switch, and will determine whether the publisher will continue supporting the platform.

In a new interview from Edge Magazine, Worldwide Studios VP at Electronic Arts Patrick Soderlund expresses his excitement for the Nintendo Switch, but seems unsure of the publisher's future involvement with Nintendo's newest platform.

He explains that Electronic Arts will bring its games to "any platform where there are consumers," and believes they "want to be part of the Switch, and help Nintendo grow that install base." However, Soderlund goes on to explain that Electronic Arts has to take resources into account, and "numbers become a factor" when determining the publisher's future with the Switch.

Soderlund continues to give insight on the company's current involvement with the Nintendo Switch, as well as what the future may hold for Electronic Arts and the platform:

"So for us it's about supporting the platform, building technology for the platform, testing it out with big things like FIFA--and maybe a couple of others, we'll see--and if they go well, I see no reason why we shouldn't have as much of our portfolio on that platform as possible. I hope we get there, that would be my personal ambition."

FIFA 18 will release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 29th. The PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Switch releases will not include Journey mode, nor will it run on the Frostbite engine.
