Do you guys remember Spider-Man 2 for the Playstation 2? That was the first game that really captured what it was like to be the wall-crawler. Its swinging mechanics were something unseen in video games at that time. I’ve waited for another game like that to come out for years (subsequent Spidey games never captured that feel) but now my wish may come true thanks to Energy Hook.
This game is the brainchild of Jamie Fristrom, a man who worked on Spider-Man 2. He wanted to create a game that combined the swinging mechanics of that title with the “points-for-style” gameplay of SSX. Energy Hook first started out as a Kickstarter funded game but it will now make its way to the Playstation Vita and Playstation 4.
You swing from rooftop to rooftop, pull off mid-air tricks, run along walls, and rack up points and energy for doing it. Because: it’s the future. And that’s what the extreme sports of the future look like. You have gravity beams and gravity boots and jetpacks and can do awesome stuff.
All of this sounds (and looks) pretty sweet to me. I’m glad to see that the spirit of Spider-Man 2 will live on in Energy Hook.
No definitive date has been announced but it will be sometime this year. Stay tuned for more news on Energy Hook.
