I've dabbled in EVE Online a bit in the past, especially when I was knee-deep in the MMO world. The lore CCP has created for the game is one of the most fun aspects, but the non-traditional MMO game play also ranks pretty high up on the list of pluses. Now, we can be immersed into that world without playing the original MMO. CCP announced that they have a new EVE-based title in the works called Dust 514. They describe it as an MMO/FPS hybrid that will also include RTS elements. How's that for a combination of genres.

Dust 514 will do a couple things - it will bring the world of EVE Online to consoles (presumably the PS3 and/or Xbox 360) and it will somehow interact with the PC title. It appears console gamers will be able to affect EVE Online's persistent world in the battles they fight and the actions they take. It will be interesting to find out if your EVE Online character can be used in Dust 514 if you play both games. That would indeed be a rather unique way to link the two games together. For now, we don't know much, but more details are likely forthcoming in the months ahead.
