Hidden behind the news of the Nintendo Switch livestream announcement, Nintendo has filed an application for an “Excite Truck” trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The trademark is filed under Class 9 for game software.excite-truck-trademark

Excite Truck originally released in 2006 on Nintendo Wii, developed by Monster Games and Nintendo SPD. The third title in the Excite series (following Excitebike and Excitebike 64), the game received generally favorable reviews across the board.

Nintendo hasn’t made any announcement to whether this trademark may be a new game in the series, or perhaps a Virtual Console release for the Wii U. The game’s predecessor, Excite Bike 64, just saw a Virtual Console release on Wii U nearly a month ago.

That said, Nintendo has been trademarking classic series as of late, notably Wave Race. There is always the possibility that we may see a revival of classic Nintendo racing series on the upcoming Nintendo Switch.
