Fabrizio R. was watching his 16-year-old son, Mario, play EA’s FIFA 2009on the PlayStation 3 when the unthinkable happened. After an apparent argument over the father trying to give him advice on the game, the Italian father apparently turned off his son’s game in the middle of him playing. Mario then apparently went to the kitchen to retrieve a 15 inch knife and plunged it into his father’s neck.
The teen then went back to the kitchen to “clean up after himself” according to the boy’s mother who told the story to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
“I saw Mario come back into the room, he seemed calm, he went to the sink and I noticed him washing a knife,” Monica told the newspaper. “Then my husband came into the room with a hand round his neck, dripping blood.”
The father was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition, but should make a full recovery. The boy is being held in a Juvenile Detention Center and is awaiting trial. The mother stated they purchased FIFA 09 so that their son wouldn’t play violent games. Sounds like they take their soccer in Europe very seriously.
