According to Media Crate, the god of Japanese game sales rankings, Final Fantasy XIII-2 sold 524,00 units in its debut week -- a paltry third of Final Fantasy XIII's release week sales of 1,502,000.  The number includes units across both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles and totals roughly 62.06% of Square Enix's shipped stock.

Media Create blames the drop on decreased interest in the series on the part of the franchise's female audience. The site throws out more numbers, claiming that 31.3% of the Final Fantasy fanbase was female previous to the introduction the XIII saga, and now that number rests on a measly 21.2%.

Are Lightning and pals really that big of a turnoff? Personally I'm in it for Sazh, but as we are learning this year, you just can't please anyone when it comes to sequels in long-standing franchises.
