Final Fantasy XI Crushes the Franchise’s Profit Records

on June 24, 2012 2:28 PM

The world of MMO games is a harsh and unforgiving place, and many gamers wrote off Final Fantasy XI years ago. However the game has kept a healthy 350,000 subscribers, mostly in Japan, which in terms of numbers is comparable to another niche MMO success, EVE Online. At the Vana Fest 2012 convention in Japan Square Enix President Yoichi Wada named Final Fantasy XI as the most successful title ever in the gaming franchise.

That may be a bit of a stinging remark to fans of the singleplayer RPGs and especially Final Fantasy VII however to look at it another way, he also noted that the total play time of FFXI’s users totals over 200,000 years. It certainly doesn’t look like Final Fantasy XI is going away anytime soon, and Square Enix will likely continue to develop the game for years to come.
