Today Square Enix released a few screenshots of the final major update of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s 2.X series, 2.55, that will be released on March 31st.

The patch will lead the story arc towards a probable cliffhanger ending, and will involve the dragons attacking the magic barrier protecting the city state of Ishgard, which the players will be prompted to defend.

Of course the screenshots raise more questions than the ones they answer. What will the fate of Ul’dah’s cute sultana be? will the Scions survive? Who is the mysterious dragoon? Everything will be answered in a few days, while the story will then continue with the 3.X’s arc, starting with the Heavensward expansion on June 23rd.
