During the Letter from the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Producer Live broadcast at E3 Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida announced that the while the first expansion is still far off (we'll hear about it in October), we're getting a treat soon.

With patch 2.4 the DPS Rogue class will be implemented, and its advanced job will be the Ninja (the Ninja is portrayed above, while the Rogue is below).

Rogues will be able to dual wield, use multiple kinds of poison, run faster in the field, take less damage when falling.

Ninjas will incorporate the abilities of rogues and will also have Ninjutsu and  hand gestures. The gestures will be combined in different ways and will result in different Ninjutsu abilities.

While Rogues and Ninjas will be a DPS class, new tank and healer classes are being worked on and planned for the expansion down the line.
