After yesterday’s sizable reveal about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s servers many wondered why North American and European worlds seemed to be bundled together under a single “NA/EU” group. Today we learned the reason.
According to Community Manager Matt Hilton servers recommended for North America and Europe will be hosted in the same data center, even if more could be opened in the future.
We will have one data center that houses the North America/Europe servers. In the future, we may create additional data centers based on a variety of factors, but currently we have set up one to house the servers created for the NA/EU territories.
I know that there are some that are concerned about latency issues and I can say that we chose the location of the North America/Europe data center after conducting numerous tests from various locations and ensuring that it covers multiple territories.
While the actual location hasn’t been officially disclosed, it could be located in Montréal, Canada, where Square Enix announced the inauguration of a new technology center last July.
In brighter news, Localization Team Lead Michael-Christopher Koji Fox dropped a new Developers’ Blog post in which he relayed a message from Sound Director and Composer Masayoshi Soken teasing a new trailer of the game coming for E3.
According to Soken-San, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida required something absolutely epic for E3, and after “six days and six nights” of work in the studio (we don’t know if uninterrupted, but the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn team is well known for extreme passion for their job, leading to overtime and sleepless nights) the final mix for the soundtrack of the trailer was handled by Soundelux’s Scott Martin Gershin (pictured below), that worked on many big Hollywood flicks like Gladiator, Riddick, Kill Bill, and Glory, several games like Gears of War 2, Bayonetta, Fable 2 and Devil May Cry (the original one, not the sad, sad reboot), not to mention Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s trailer A New Beginning.
Both Soken-san and Fernehalwes (Michael-Christopher Koji Fox’s official forum handle) defined the upcoming trailer “Epic”, and considering the precedent, I don’t have the slightest trouble believing it. Here’s to you, Scott and Soken-san. My body is ready.
