Final Fantasy XIV Developers Comment on the Tragic Death of Yugiri’s Voice Actress

Among the new characters introduced in recent updates to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Yugiri is one of the most beloved by the fans. As the first Au Ra NPC, who also helped introducing the Ninja job, she definitely couldn’t be considered a secondary character.

Tragically, the English voice actress that played her role, former EastEnders star Sian Blake, was found dead together with her two young children in her home’s garden in London on January 5th, after having gone missing since December 13th. At the moment, her partner is suspected for her murder.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida commented yesterday on Blake’s tragic passing:

“Yesterday, I received unfortunate news from the agency of British voice talent Sian Blake confirming the passing of Sian and her two children.

Sian was a gifted actress, her masterful portrayal of Yugiri leaving a lasting impression amongst our fans. I had hoped she would be with us for many more performances to come.

I am deeply saddened by this tragedy and offer to Sian and her children my sincerest prayers.

The localization team, who worked closely with her, also provided a comment.

“There are no words to describe the shock and disbelief we felt upon hearing the tragic news about Sian Blake and her two young sons.

Though we only had the chance to work with Sian for a short time, we were glad to have such an accomplished and dedicated actress on the project. She brought life to a character dear to our hearts, and we will always be grateful for her contribution.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

It’s certainly hard to cope with the fact that something this tragic happened to an actress that we’ve been hearing in one of our favorite games for quite a while.

All we can do is joining the staff of the game, and many of its fans, in offering our prayers to the victims, and our most heartfelt thoughts to their family.
