Today I was watching the latest Phantasy Star Online 2 livestream on Nico Nico, and I suddenly started seeing familiar armor.

I was like "why are they showing a Final Fantasy XIV trailer in a Phantasy Star Online 2 stream?" Then I remembered about the upcoming crossover event coming this July, and looks like PSO2 players are in for a treat in terms of armor and weapons coming from Square Enix's MMORPG.

The goodies look so believable, that the trailer could pass for a Final Fantasy XIV trailer at first glance. The biggest signal that we aren't looking at one is the fact that PSO2's graphics are quite a lot more dated than FFXIV's especially in what concerns environments. Watching more carefully, it's almost like Square Enix ported back Final Fantasy XIV into Final Fantasy XI.

At the moment the collaboration goes only one way, with Final Fantasy XIV items and characters appearing in Sega's online RPG. Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida went on record a while ago mentioning that the other way around might happen, but doing it right will require time, so it's up in the air at the moment.

Of course, in the west not only we aren't getting any of those items, but we aren't even going to get the game, unless someone at Sega has a sudden moment of Nirvana and remembers that they made a promise years ago and then they swept it under the rug.
