Today’s update for Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea goes more into the other characters that permeate the world, as well as some of the gaming mechanics surrounding plot progression and item finding.

First up is Shallistera’s childhood friend, Kortes, who is sociable and smart. As a member of a warrior clan and the family ship escort, he has trained from a young age. he’s witnessed the changes that came to the world through alchemy but is still bound by tradition.

Next is Shallotte’s own mother Nady Elminus. Her husband was always busy working and even left the childbirth and immediate period after to the mother. He then past away and she has raised her daughter on her own since. Recently she got a job for her daughter as a go-between for an alchemist, but because Shallotte is not too good at alchemy this will be a difficult job for her.

Finally, Teokhuga is the caretaker of Shallistera’s family boat and has been taking care of Shallistera since she was young. He’s been around for so long that he’s considered close family and knows a lot about the history of the ship he constantly maintains.

The plot of Atelier Shallie advances through a mechanic known as “Life Tasks.” These tasks relate to battles, item collection, who the heroine needs to speak with and other things. There are also special field events that aid in item gathering; this works by pressing a direction on the D-pad when the gauge fills up, up to a total of nine gauges. Furthermore, by accomplishing certain quests, you can alter the way an area of its inhabitants look.

Shallotte can clean areas, which may result in her finding an item. Shallistera can use a dowsing ability, which allows her to find items as well.
