Over the weekend Arc System Works revealed BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, which appears to be the first direct sequel in the series since Continuum Shift. Since then, few details about the game have spread on the internet. Chrono Phantasma will introduce an all new ‘overdrive’ system. This new game-play mechanic will add a meter that fills up over time. When the meter is full, overdrive can be activated. Each character’s overdrive functions differently, but they all at least increase the attack power of the user.
Furthermore, a new ‘crush trigger’ mechanic allows players to spend 25% of their Heat gauge to immediately crush their opponent’s regular guard. This new mechanic is sure to change up the dynamics of battle. Finally, every returning character will gain at least one new attack. Some characters, such as Bang, will even gain a new Distortion Drive (super attack).
All of these additions will come on top of the three new characters and across-the-board balance changes in BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma. Location tests for the game began today in Akihabara, and the game will be available in Japanese arcades late this year. Details on a console version of the game are sure to follow.
