Game Crazy Retiring 200 Stores in October

on September 29, 2009 8:10 AM

By the end of October, game specialty store Game Crazy will have closed the doors of 200 of its nearly 700 locations, reports Joystiq.  This in an unfortunate byproduct of this screwed up economy we find ourselves in.  Here’s Game Crazy’s official words on the matter.

Movie Gallery, Inc. is currently operating in an unprecedented consumer/retail environment. In order for us to continue to best serve our millions of customers across North America we’re addressing underperforming stores and ensuring that there is sufficient [return on investment] associated with each of these stores going forward. The vast majority of our stores will be unaffected by these efforts.

What does this mean?  It means less retail outlets for people to buy games, thus less proliferation of the industry in people’s daily lives.  While that may be over-dramatizing the matter, you get the point.  News like this is never good, whether its a game developer or a game retailer.
