Well played, GameStop. We had all been hoping that with all the trends towards digital distribution, brick and mortar (and evil) establishments like GameStop would become a thing of the past, like dinosaurs or HD-DVD. But they're here to convince you that, just like going to the DMV is your favorite part of having a driver's license, you friggin' love going to GameStop.

Pursuant of that goal, GameStop has partnered with Sony Computer Entertainment America to start offering DLC of all kinds, from game add-ons full game downloads,  right in the store, or on GameStop.com.

“We are always looking for new ways PlayStation Network users can expand, extend and enhance their overall entertainment experience,” said Tim Bender, senior vice president of sales, Sony Computer Entertainment America. “Being able to purchase downloadable digital content at retail provides yet another convenient purchasing option for gamers.”

Bender failed to comment on how dealing with greasy-haired, ill-mannered teens behind the GameStop counter, hounding you for preorders and magazine subscriptions was in any way comparable to the convenience of simply giving my credit card information to a humming black machine in my den, but to each his own, I guess.
