The new SimCity title – set to be sort of a revitalization of the franchise – is moving deep into the realm of our connected age by adding tons of social features, dubbed “Sim City World” by EA. In the world of this new SimCity, while you can play alone, the game seems to really open up when you take part in the worldwide social structure that they are trying to build here.
You can work with or compete against other cities for all sorts of goals, which are, naturally, kept track of online. You can specialize your city to help out friends if you so desire, as well. It even seems like EA is leaning toward attempting to create a virtual worldwide economy within the game itself, with each city contributing to the rise and fall of market prices and having to deal with supply and demand, just like in the real world.
The new Gamescom trailer shows off these social features, in brief. It also notes at the end that the game is available for pre-order now (from Origin, to be precise), and there are bonuses for various editions of the game. The kicker is the game has no solid release date. But you can bet SimCity fans, like myself, will be all over this when it does arrive.
