GDC has always been a show about developers getting together and discussing what went right and wrong with their latest studio offerings. It has never really been for the press, although they do show a large presence at these gatherings. With good reason though because they always have the most interesting keynotes and lectures that reveals lots of info about their own companies. Many great speakers have already been announced to talk including Nintendo’s own Satoru Iwata, but the latest batch of speakers is just as exciting.
Daisuke Amaya, known for creating the hit game Cave Story will be giving his first ever speech at GDC 2011. His game is an IGF finalist this year with the WiiWare version, and he plans to talk about his creative process and his overall advances in the five years it took to complete the game. Another announced speaker is Playdead’s lead gameplay designer Jeppe Carlsen who will be giving a speech called ‘Designing Limbo’s Puzzles.’ Other speakers include GDC founder Chris Crawford, Magic: The Gathering designer Skaff Elias, Naughty Dog’s John Bellomy and many many more. it’s great events like this that make us all forget about the humility that is the VGA’s.
