Gears of War Getting a Movie in Partnership with Universal Studios

on October 5, 2016 6:11 PM

During a dedicated livestream the Coalition Head of Studio Rod Fergusson announced that the Gears of War series is getting a movie.

The movie will be created in partnership with Universal Studios, and Fergusson mentioned that it won’t be a movie made exclusively for gamers, but a bespoke story created for a movie, since it’s a different medium with a different audience. The team is working on making the “best Gears movie possible as opposed to what is closed to the game.”

The movie is currently in early pre-production, so no announcement was made on a director or a writer.

According to Fergusson, the goal for the film is to feel authentic to the Gears of War franchise, but to actually blow people’s minds because it’s a great movie first, and pays homage to the source material second.
