After taking down the gods of Greek mythology for over a decade, the upcoming PS4-exclusive God of War is set to bring players on a new journey through the lands of Norse mythology and putting Kratos into a new father figure role, with the game officially confirmed for a spring release.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Santa Monica's Cory Barlog announced that God of War will be heading to PS4 on April 20th, 2018, stating that "there has been a long journey just to reach this point," and adding that "this is my favorite release day of my entire career. If I live to be 100, I do not think I will be able to top this release day."

In addition to the now-confirmed April release date, the post also debuted a brand new story trailer for God of War that gives some more insight into the journey ahead for Kratos and his son Atreus, which you can find below.

Alongside these announcements, Barlog also revealed the premium editions and pre-order offerings for God of War. The first of these will be three legendary shield skins that players can get with pre-orders of any version of God of War. Those at EB Games or GameStop will also receive a "Luck of Ages XP Boost" that grants players additional XP, currency gain, and increases the ability to trigger perks.

The first of the two premium editions of the game is the Collector's Edition, which will retail for $129.99 and includes a collectible statue of Kratos and Atreus, a collector's Steelbook Case, a cloth map, a variety of bonus digital content, and more.

The second of the two is the Stone Mason Edition, which features all of the contents of the Collector's Edition in addition to a set of exclusive figures modeled from in-game items, such as Atreus' wooden horse, and more. This edition will retail for $149.99 and will be exclusive to North America.

Finally, the PlayStation Blog post also detailed the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game that will retail for $69.99, which includes the base game alongside a digital copy of Dark Horse Comics' The Art of God of War book, a digital issue of Dark Horse's comic series based on the game (both of which will include an exclusive commentary track from the creators), a PS4 dynamic theme, an exclusive armor and shield set, and for those that pre-order the game in-stores, a physical Kratos and Atreus pin will be available for customers in North America at participating retailers.
