Late last month, a trio of ads went up in LA for EA's Star Wars Battlefront II in anticipation of E3 2017. Now, Sony is getting in on the fun with its own ad for first-party PS4 exclusive: God of War

The ad isn't quite complete -- but as you can see below -- it's quite obviously God of War.

God of War's presence at E3 2017 shouldn't be surprise, in fact the surprise would be if it didn't rear its head during Sony's presser. The surprise here is that of all the upcoming first-party Sony games, it is God of War getting the prominent big building ad: not Spiderman, not Days Gone, not Gran Turismo Sport, and not the upcoming Uncharted standalone expansion.

Now, what this means..well that is hard to say. God of War -- bar Spiderman -- is the most recognizable brand in the upcoming slate of Sony first-party games, at least of the ones that are expected to release within the next two years. This could very well be why it is getting the big ad treatment. However, this could also be Sony foreshadowing God of War as the centerpiece of the show: perhaps with a lengthy gameplay demo or a release date or both. Who knows. Like all good things in life: we will just have to wait and see. But for God of War fans looking for some big news at E3, this very well could be a good sign that said news is what Sony is packing.

God of War, in development by Sony Santa Monica (Santa Monica Studio), is set to be the eighth installment in the series, and the sequel to 2010's God of War III. The game is also essentially a soft reboot of the franchise and will take place notably within Norse mythology, whereas the previous games were based in Greek mythology. Further, series protagonist Kratos will return as the main character, and he now has a son named Atreus, who will also star in the game.

A release date for God of War has yet to be divulged: but hopefully that will change with E3.
