Today God of War Director Cory Barlog confirmed the name of Kratos' son, who appeared in the gameplay presentation of the game at E3 2016.The name of the kid is Atreus, and it was discovered by Twitter user Fabiano Banin, it was hidden in the details of the MP3 file of the E3 Overture published yesterday by Sony Santa Monica, which included "An Introduction to Kratos and Atreus."

This of course disproves the theory that identified Kratos' son as the Norse god of war Tyr, if there was any need for that.

The name Atreus can be found in Greek mythology, attributed to the king of  Mycenae who was also father of Agamemnon and Menelaus, both of whom are extensively featured in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey as commanders of the Greek army besieging Troy.

That said, considering that Barlog mentioned a couple of months ago that he was struggling with picking a name, it's quite unlikely that Kratos' son could be that Atreus. It's more probable that we're looking at a completely original character.

In case you missed it, don't forget to download the lovely music released yesterday by Sony Santa Monica, celebrating a whopping fifteen million views on the first gameplay trailer. It's the overture The Walking Dead‘s composer Bear McReary conducted during Sony’s E3 conference, and it sounds amazing.
