Today, Polish developer CD Projekt Red announced that it will be holding a Gwent: The Witcher Card Game tournament at Gamescom this year.

The tourney will be a two-day ordeal, starting on August 25th and ending with the final match on August 26th. For Gamescom attendees, the tourney will be held at the GWENT booth, which is located in the Entertainment Area (hall 8, Bo21), where CD Projekt Red will also be showcasing new content coming to the game soon.

How the tournament will work is a total of eight players will compete for a piece of the $25,000 prize pool. Seven of the eight players will be chosen via their ranks -- meaning the seven highest ranked players by August 1st P.M. CEST who sign-up will be selected. The 8th player will be decided via Wild Card Qualifiers held on August 24th, prior to the main event, at the same booth.

According to CD Projekt Red, the tourney is part of a larger eSports plan for GWENT that will be revealed and detailed during the show. Signups for the tournament and more information can be obtained here.

For those that don’t know: GWENT‘s gameplay is based on the mechanics of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s in-game dueling deck constructor, but obviously expanded into a full-fledged game. It is notably free-to-play and poised to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime later this year.
