A group of modders have remastered Half-Life 2 in VR for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, and have taken the project to Steam Greenlight in order to get the game on the digital store.

For those that don't know: Steam Greenlight is a system that enlists the community’s help in picking some of the new games to be released on Steam and also helps developers get some spotlight for their game. That being said, if the Half-Life 2 VR Mod gets enough votes it will get onto Steam (and it will easily get enough votes).

The mod will have full motion support, realistic weapon interactions, updated effects, textures, models, and maps.

In a post on Road To VR, the developers explain that mod first was developed and released in 2013, but soon became unplayable due to technological advancements in VR.

Now, after several years of the mod in dormancy, members of the mod, plus some new developers, worked on the game to bring it to the Rift and Vive.

The mod is specifically called Half Life 2: VR and will be free. However, you will need to own a Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 on Steam in order to play it.

Below, you can check out a new trailer which accompanied the mod's arrival on Steam Greenlight:
