The Halo Wars 2 Blitz Multiplayer Beta Begins January 20th; New Trailer Released

on January 11, 2017 2:45 PM

Today, developers Creative Assembly and 343 Industries announced that Halo War 2 fans will have one more opportunity to get hands-on time with the RTS game, via the game’s final large-scale multiplayer beta.

The beta will focus exclusively on the game’s brand-new card-based game mode called Blitz, and run from January 20, 2017 through January 30th. For those that don’t know, Blitz is the developers “new twist” on RTS gameplay that combines the deck building and split-second decision making of card-based strategy play with classic Halo Wars combat.

The beta will take place on the map “Proving Grounds,” and will offer 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 matches. Further, all of the mod’s Faction Leaders and Blitz cards that will be available in the full game at launch, will also be available and playable in the beta, so if you’re looking for a leg-up on the competition at launch, it’s probably worth giving this beta a gander.

Lastly, the beta will come with a series of daily and weekly challenges to participate in as we the developer works to stress test those systems. Everything you earn within the beta, will not carry over into the full game. However, two in-game Blitz card packs (one for just logging into the beta, and another for completing your first match) will be rewarded to all who participate once the game ships in February.

Dan Ayoub, Studio Head of Strategy Games at 343 Industries accompanied the announcement with the following statement:

I’m personally really excited to share this next big milestone with our fan community and look forward to your feedback, which we’ll be watching closely in the Halo Waypoint forums. The team will be monitoring all of our backend and under-the-hood systems but we also look forward to your thoughts around gameplay, balance and the Blitz “meta” game.

Halo Wars 2 is set to launch February 21, 2017 for Xbox One and PC. Below, you can check out the game’s new trailer:
