The Batman: Arkham games have done a lot to bring Batman to a broader audience. The games have now become a franchise in their own right with spin-off sequels and toys. Soon, this video game universe will head to the small screen with Batman: Assault on Arkham.
Assault on Arkham takes place in-between Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum. The producers of the movie wanted this film to be the connective tissue between those two games. The movie has the Suicide Squad breaking into the asylum on the orders of Amanda Waller. Since the team doesn’t exactly get along, things are volatile between them during their mission. Add the Joker into this mix and the potential for catastrophe isn’t far behind.
This trailer shows some very rough scenes from the movie which is still in development. Even from the scenes shown however it’s clear that the tone from the games is being kept intact. In particular, that eerie green that was pervasive in the asylum is all over the place here. I also noticed that the map layout of Arkham is nearly identical to how it was in the video game.
Batman: Assault on Arkham is set to be released this summer. The next Batman: Arkham game, Arkham Knight will be released for the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One worldwide on October 14.
