During its E3 2017 press conference pre-show, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that developer Housemarque's -- who you may recognize from Super Stardust, Resogun, and Alienation -- upcoming sci-fi twin-stick shooter, Matterfall, will finally launch on August 15th exclusively on the PS4.

Now, a few days later Sony -- who are acting as the publisher of the title -- have provided a live-demo of the game during E3, that has resulted in over seven minutes of new gameplay footage.

For those that don't know: in Matterfall players will "blast through explosive waves of contemporary arcade action" in rapid-fire, twin-stick gameplay. You play a hero-for-hire, who must survive a series of side-scrolling intense war zones in vertical cities overrun by a mysterious "smart matter."

In the game you will weaponize alien tech to destroy enemies infected by the deadly Red Matter, and control Blue Matter to manipulate the world and push forward.

It's important to note that Matterfall and Nex Machina are not the same game, though they are similar in many ways and obviously both from Housemarque. The latter is poised to release later this month -- meaning we will be getting not just one, but two Housemarque's games this summer.

Matterfall will cost $19.99 USD when it launches. Below, you can check out the new gameplay footage and learn more about the game:
