2016 is the year that many see as the big breakout for virtual reality with each of the major competitors in the field – such as Oculus, Sony, HTC, and others – launching their devices this year, with pre-orders for the HTC Vive headset now available starting today.
Pre-orders for the HTC Vive VR headset have officially been opened today, with the device available for its previously-announced $799.99 price and pre-orders also adding an additional shipping fee (US estimate is $30, though shipping may vary by region). Shipment of the headsets will begin in early April.
Pre-orders of the HTC Vive’s Consumer Edition will include the headset, two wireless controllers, two “base stations,” a link box for PC connections, and Vive earbuds, while the pre-order package will also include added software: copies of the games Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption, along with Google’s Tilt Brush app for VR-inspired painting and illustration.
