Brian Fargo and inXile Entertainment announced this past weekend at PAX South that their next project will be The Bard's Tale IV.It had been previously rumored that inXile was working on another popular RPG franchise after revealing they had started work on another RPG project on the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter page in early December of last year. It seems that suspisions that the project was related to The Bard's Tale were correct. After successfully Kickstarting the successors to two Interplay Entertainment franchises Fargo had worked on with Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera, it only makes sense that the studio would dip back into the well to revive another classic game. Tales of the Unknown Volume 1: The Bard's Tale was the first game released in the series in 1985 before shortening the title to simply The Bard's Tale. Two sequels were created in the form of The Bard's Tale 2: The Destiny Knight and The Bard's Tale 3: Thief of Fate, with a fourth game simply titled The Bard's Tale released in 2004 as a humorous spoof on the RPG genre that was not meant to be a part of the main series.Details are sparse at the moment. but a planned Kickstarter for the project will reveal more details when the crowdfunding campaign begins in the near future. Fargo did mention on Twitter that the game that the combat system is still being designed for the game, but that fans can "be assured it will be no real time click fest." There currently is no set release date for The Bard's Tale IV.
