As many indie games are worthy of praise not only for their innovations, new ideas, and usually smaller (but dedicated) development teams, Apple is celebrating the best that indie gaming has to offer through a new section of the iTunes Store and its gaming department.
The “Indie Game Showcase” section of the iTunes homepage is now live and features a selection of independently-produced apps and games showcased by Apple, with the description for the section mentioning:
“Often made up of just a few dedicated members, independent studios prove that what really matters is the size of your dream. In each Indie Game Showcase, we celebrate a popular game and its creative team, highlighting the developer’s titles along with their favorite games from other studios.”
The first developer selected in the “Indie Game Showcase” is Simogo, developers of last year’s Device 6 and the recently-released Year Walk, among others. The description for Simogo’s inclusion in the “Indie Game Showcase” reads:
“With Device 6, the team harnessed everything they’d learned and delivered an incredible hybrid of text adventure and puzzle game that lets you explore an interactive novel. It’s an experience tailor-fit for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, and Device 6‘s unique gameplay made it one of our runners-up for 2013’s Game of the Year.”
