on September 12, 2015 8:06 AM

Every year at Tokyo Game Show, the Japanese Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (basically the local ESA) honors the best games of the show with the Japan Game Awards.

The CESA just sent in a press release detailing the award ceremony for this year. The event is actually split in two parts.

The first will happen on Thursday, September 17th at 4 PM Local time, and will include the following awards:

  • “Game of the Year Division”
  • “Game Designers Award”
  • “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award”

Here’s the official explanation for each:

Each award for the “Games of the Year Division” is selected from over 2,000 titles released during the time between April 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015 and honors a title suitable to represent this past year.

The “Game Designer’s Award” is selected by top creators and designers in Japan from their professional viewpoint.

The “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award” is given to an individual or group who has contributed to the development of the game industry.

Here’s the full schedule:

– Address by host rep: CESA Chairman; Hideki Okamura
– Announcements:

  1. “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award”
  2. “Global Award” for the “Games of the Year Division”
  3. “Best Sales Award” for the “Games of the Year Division”
  4. “Special Award” for the “Games of the Year Division”
  5. “Game Designer’s Award”  (Presented by: Mr. Masahiro Sakurai, Head judge)
  6. “Award for Excellence” for the “Games of the Year Division”
  7. “Grand Award” for the “Games of the Year Division”

Following, on September 20th, 1 PM local time, the awards for the “future division” will be announced.

If you’re wondering how that works, here’s the official blurb:

The award for the Future Division is applicable for unreleased titles that were announced and exhibited at the TGS2015, and votes were collected from visitors in three days during the event. After which, through a screening by the Japan Game Awards Selection Committee, a title with future prospective was selected.

Of course, I’ll be at the show, ready to report on the winners, so stay tuned here on DualShockers to know who will bring home the coveted trophies.
