Japan Gets Online Super Street Fighter 2 on Virtual Console, Coming to the West

Yes, surprisingly, Capcom is bringing online functionality to the Genesis version of Super Street Fighter II on the Wii’s Virtual Console platform. I have no idea why they’re doing it, especially so late in the Wii’s life; something like this would’ve been awesome a few years ago, especially before they released Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for XBLA/PSN, which is, to most people, better in terms of gameplay than SSF2.

The new online features include versus and tournament modes. I’m not entirely sure how they’ll handle player matching, as it’s not mentioned in the video (at least not in a way that I can understand). They just select the “Wi-Fi” mode at the beginning and get into it. Hit the jump for the full trailer.
