Kaz Hirai: PS4’s Goal Is to Remain Number One, Increasing Market Penetration Will Be the Challenge

on June 20, 2014 10:03 AM

Yesterday Sony held its  97th General Shareholder Meeting at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa in Tokyo and CEO Kazuo Hirai addressed briefly the situation of the PS4 and the goals for the future.

He mentioned that after the successful launch the goal for PS4 is to hold the position as number one, but that isn’t enough, and the challenge will be to find how to further extend the market penetration rate for the future.

Hirai-san also explained that PlayStation’s network services have been growing and now provide a form of stable revenue. he concluded by saying that this year Sony is celebrating PlayStation’s 20th anniversary, and between hardware, software and network services, PS4 will probably become the platform which will generate the largest profits.

Considering the fact that Sony is restructuring quite a few of its business ventures, PS4 and the PlayStation business seem more and more positioned to become one of the main pillars for the company’s profitability. Hopefully that will also involve further investment to give it stability and improve expansion.

Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality) and MMORPGs are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans of the flight simulator genre on Earth.
