Kinect Rumored to be Mandatory on Next Gen XBOX

Microsoft seems to be betting the farm on its motion controller Kinect, as it’s rumored that the company is planning to make the peripheral mandatory in the next generation XBOX.

Originally reported by Kotaku, citing a source by the name of “SuperDaE” who has access to a next gen XBOX (code name Durango), the site published a detailed report about the next XBOX and its plans to rely heavily on the Kinect sensor.

However, this isn’t the same sensor gamers currently have connected to their 360s. Instead, the new Kinect will be able to track up to 6 human skeletons at the same time at a full HD color resolution of 1920 x 1080. The new Kinect will also be able to make out individual fingers, facial expressions, and a greater sense of depth.

It was also noted that because of the systems dependence on the Kinect  — so much so that it won’t even initially start up without calibrating the sensor — that Microsoft will be packing one in with every next generation XBOX. How nice of them, right?

So how do you feel about Kinect-ing more with the next XBOX? Yes, I totally went there.
