Bloober Team has shared an 11-minute-long gameplay trailer from its highly-anticipated horror title, Layers of Fear. The trailer features the newest protagonist of the series The Writer and showcases the Unreal Engine 5's mesmerizing Lumen system.

The recent video offers a first look at Bloober Team's upcoming installment, which is a collection of previous entries and chapters in the series. Set to arrive with major visual upgrades that amplify the horrifying atmosphere, the new Layers of Fear will be "the crowning work of the Layer series" and a "tribute to the fans," the studios say. The upcoming remake also features a new protagonist, The Writer, who will have his story told in the new story chapter, titled The Final Note.

The 11-minute-long trailer, on the other hand, offers the first gameplay walkthrough since the game's announcement during Summer Game Fest in 2022. The walkthrough offers a closer look into the visually enhanced world of Layers of Fear and features the new protagonist's disturbing trip in the Lighthouse. It also reveals how the player uses the lantern, which will be an "essential tool to confront the nightmares in the game."

Bloober Team wants its upcoming installment to tie the stories of the previous titles into the series' texture, and allow players to "explore the depths of obsession" through the eyes of the previous protagonists - The Painter, The Actor, and The Writer.

The "series' crowning work" makes use of Unreal Engine 5's Lumen system alongside HDR, ray tracing, HDR, and Niagara, which is the next-generation VFX system of Epic Games' engine. It is safe to say that the impact of the next-gen graphical elements is quite visible in the recent gameplay trailer.

In addition to the major visual upgrades, Layers of Fear will also get a brand-new soundtrack coming from Arek Reikowski, who previously created the soundtrack for The Medium, another title filled with disturbing scenes and psychedelic horror made by Bloober Team.

The upcoming installment consists of 2016's Layers of Fear, its expansion Inheritance, a new chapter titled The Final Note, and Layers of Fear 2. The studio has not revealed the definitive release date for Layers of Fear. But the title will make its debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games in June. That said, it is not the only game that Bloober Team has been cooking up for some time now. The Poland-based studio is also working on a Silent Hill 2 remake.
