Today’s update brings a really nice surprise for fans–we get a very detailed look into the designing process for Becker, the protagonist of Mighty No. 9. The current Kickstarter counter is $2,285,131 with 13 days to go.

According to artist Kimo Kimo, Keiji Inafune first told him to design a cute character, so he went for an overall cute vibe but with strong eyes that conveyed Becker’s equally strong will. (These designs were soon rejected though):

Meanwhile, Director Koji Imaeda started working on the world of Mighty No. 9 to aid in the character design. Kimo Kimo tried to incorporate designs from his childhood shows, such as Kikaida and Giant Robo. He also used his childhood love of spacesuits in the design, as well as the idea of Becker looking like he’s wearing boots, gloves, clothes and a helmet (which was inspired by Astro Boy).

After a very long process involving some other interesting designs fromĀ Inti Creates, comcept USA finally decided on this charming design for Beck.
