A "limited number" of employees have been layed off from the Sega UK offices, the publisher announced today.

In a statement to Polygon, the company stated that the rationale behind the lay offs was a consolidating of existing departments.

Sega is in the process of consolidating certain functions of the Sonic and Mobile departments within Sega of America, where the management and production for those areas of the business reside. As part of that strategy a limited number of redundancies have taken effect in our European office, based in London.

The development of Sonic Boom will not be affected by these redundancies, Sega confirmed to Eurogamer.
