As popular as Minecraft has become in the last few years, it hasn't outgrown the occasional guest appearance from the likes of other popular video game stars, with a certain pair of Italian plumbers set to join the game on the Wii U next week.

A new trailer released by Nintendo has revealed the upcoming "Super Mario Bros. Mash-Up Pack," which will bring new character skins, items, and more straight from the Mushroom Kingdom to the Wii U version of Minecraft.

The Mario-themed pack will release free for the Wii U version of Minecraft on May 17th, 2016, and will include skins modeled after many of the series' beloved characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach, and more (for a total of 40 skins), while also including new music, items, and a pre-made world modeled after Super Mario Bros..

The new content will be released through a free game update on May 17th, while the Mash-Up Pack will also be included as part of the game's retail release for Wii U on June 17th (priced at $29.99).

Nintendo VP of publisher and developer relations Steve Singer explained in a statement that "both the Super Mario franchise and Minecraft embrace the magic of exploration and discovery," while adding that "players will have a great time adventuring and creating in this free game update that embraces the unique and memorable elements of both franchises."
