Mario Sports Mix Media Tournament Recap

On January 25, 2011, Nintendo held a media tournament for their upcoming title, Mario Sports Mix. Various media outlets came together to face-off against each other to find out who was the best. Simultaneous tournaments took place in both New York City and San Francisco, and the winners from both cities met in a final showdown over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

The tournament began with many media outlets, but to qualify in the top 8 bracket, players had to set a high score against the CPU. Those in the final 8 faced off in games of hockey, volleyball, and dodgeball. As you can see, yours truly made it to the finals of the New York City tournament, but came up just a bit too short to John Sciarrino of Maxim.com. It was unfortunate, but at least I had a good time and I’m sure everyone else who participated did as well.

The epic battle between New York City and San Francisco over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection was held with a game of basketball, and unfortunately, San Francisco took the win. Audrey Drake of IGN took the grand championship. Overall, the event was a blast, and every player got a good taste of what to expect when the game arrives February 7, 2011.
