Mario Tennis Open is Coming to 3DS May 20

During its Nintendo Direct event this morning, the publisher announced a few new features for existing titles, such as the Kid Icarus: Uprising multiplayer modes, and delved into a few new projects the company’s working on. Mario Tennis Open, a game that had been announced late last year, finally received its official title and a release date: May 20.

The game takes advantage of the 3DS gyro sensor when players activate a close-range viewing angle. You’ll be able to tilt the handheld to get a better scope of the court in front of you. Additionally, the touch screen displays the different shots available to players, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to use it — the circle pad and face buttons can still control the action.

This is the first time since Mario Power Tennis that Nintendo’s main man has had a sports title on a handheld. It’s also the first original Mario tennis title since the GameCube iteration. So, are you ready to hit the court again?
