Crytek issued a press release today announcing that the upcoming mech-combat MMO MechWarrior Online will be based on the CryENGINE 3.

This is definitely good news for MechWarrior fans, as the power of the CryENGINE could definitely be a boon for the visual fidelity of the game. MechWarrior games have always been definitely good looking at the time of their release, and thanks to the same engine of Crysis 2, Crysis (only on Xbox 360 and PS3, the PC version used CryENGINE 2) and ArcheAge, this one seems to be going down the same path.

You can find  the official site of MechWarrior Online here, and you can already register your pilot name. The game is slated for release in 2012 and will be free-to-play.
