David Reale, the motion actor behind Charlie Cole from Splinter Cell: Blacklist, discusses the hacker genius’s strengths and pitfalls in the latest video from Ubisoft. Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be released on August 20th for North America for PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U.
Charlie Cole excels at all types of hacking: hardware, software, intel, data dropping, etc. He also supplies Sam Fisher with all his handy gadgets and tech toys. However, Cole is the most inexperienced on the team when it comes to high stakes missions–sort of like the runt of litter. He has some friction with Grim since she’s very by-the-book and rigid, while he’s more willing to bend rules for the greater good.
For Reale, actually doing the motion capture is like theater because the actors have nothing to work with. They simply walk around and interact with each other, using their imaginations to visualize the environment their characters are in. Reale remarks that it’s most like playing in a basement as a child. Seeing the motion actors talks about the characters and their own experiences are really interesting, kind of like stepping into another world.
