If you were a fan of the Age of Empires series, it stung quite a bit when the failed experiment that was Age of Empires Online closed down just last month. After staying on life support for quite a while, it was easy to think that the expectation for the series would be that it remained dormant for some time.

Turns out we were horrifically wrong.

It churns my stomach knowing how far the Age of Empires IP has fallen when I look at the trailer for the newly announced Age of Empires: Castle Siege – a mobile game cut from the same cloth as Clash of Clans. It isn't even the fact that it is a mobile title, but a mobile title only available on Windows 8 devices such as the Surface and Windows 8 Phones, a platform that owns only 3.4% of the market according to reports from last month. It isn't sad enough that the series has become a mobile game, but the fact that almost no one will play it is what really nails me in the gut.

While I sit behind my computer monitor and fondly reminisce about spawning armies of Shelby Cobras, you can check out the full one minute trailer below.
