Today, new gameplay footage of Middle-earth: Shadow of War from publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and developer Monolith Productions has surfaced, courtesy of IGN.

In said new footage, the game's weapons and gear, which has notably been expanded upon the the first game, Shadow of Mordor, gets a bunch of new details. This expansion of the weapon and gear system means not only more variety in weapons and armor to choose from, but also more rarity and gem sockets that can augment Talion and his wraith companion.

When equipping and customizing your character, you have can interchange weapons and armors in the following slots: Sword slot (melee combat), Dagger slot (steal kills), Range Slot, Armor, Capes, and Ruins he can add onto the new ring of power.

In Shadow of War some equipment comes with challenges. Doing said challenges unlocks extra bonuses for the given piece of equipment. You can also equip gems, which are dropped by powerful enemies, into equipment. In order to equip a gem, which grants additional bonuses, you have to use currency you've collected to unlock  the socket of the equipment you're trying to equip with a gem. The video also goes into runes, rune bonuses, rune sets, and more.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is set to launch for Xbox One, Project Scorpio, PC, PS4, and PS4 Pro, on August 22, 2017 in North America, and on August 25th in Europe (it’s unclear if it will launch for Project Scorpio on these dates, because Microsoft’s upcoming console still doesn’t have a release date).
